NEWON STORE STORE · RESEARCH

Product decisions from evidence,
not guesses.

Research is not “do more interviews.”

It is setting the question,
recording observation,
forming hypotheses,
supporting or breaking them with evidence,
and moving findings into product decisions.

Product Research Template is the board
that connects study results to what you build.

OVERVIEW

Insight is not
a pile of notes.

Interview, pain, alternatives, competitors, reviews,
hypothesis, evidence, insight, decision —
one flow so research survives into the product.

Separate gut feel from evidenced findings
by giving them different cells.

This template turns research into sprint input,
not decorative report filler.

WHO IT'S FOR

Who this template is for.

PRODUCT MANAGERS

When feature requests pile up
and evidence plus priority need one board

RESEARCHERS

Handing interview and review analysis
into a product decision log

FOUNDERS

Refusing to build on assumption alone
and wanting even short studies written down

DESIGNERS

Clarifying pain points and alternatives
before screen decisions

COMPETITIVE PASSES

Accumulating competitor and review mining
as a reusable board, not a one-off slide

DECISION MEETINGS

Wanting “why this feature”
to fit in one evidence-backed line

MODULES

Cells that connect
study to decision.

RESEARCH QUESTION

The core question this study must answer.
Wide questions produce blurry findings.

USER INTERVIEW

Interview notes.
Keep quote and interpretation separate.

PAIN POINT

Problems that keep appearing.
Separate one-off complaints from patterns.

CURRENT ALTERNATIVE

How users solve it today.
See the reality your product must replace.

COMPETITOR RESEARCH

Compare competing products.
Prefer reasons people choose over feature grids.

REVIEW MINING

Analyze reviews and community signals.
Collect repeating praise and complaint language.

HYPOTHESIS

Hypotheses formed from the research.
If it cannot be tested, it is not a hypothesis.

EVIDENCE

Evidence for or against each hypothesis,
with sources attached.

INSIGHT

Key findings to apply to the product —
one-line conclusions, not note dumps.

PRODUCT DECISION

Turn findings into feature and scope decisions.
Record what you chose not to do.

Behind each feature decision:
a path of question, evidence, and insight.

PATTERN VIEW

See one-person opinions
separately from repeating pains.

KILL LIST

Explicitly drop weak ideas
instead of quietly carrying them.

SPRINT INPUT

Research feeds roadmap and backlog
without a translation gap.

HOW TO USE

How to use it.

  1. Narrow the research question

On Research Question, write only what this round must answer.
Park the rest for a later round.

  2. Split quote from interpretation

    In Interview and Review Mining,
keep user words and team interpretation in separate cells.

  3. Make hypotheses testable

On Hypothesis, name the observation that would falsify it,
then attach support or pushback on Evidence.

  4. Insight as one line

Do not dump long summaries on Insight.
Leave only conclusions that change the product.

  5. Close with Decision Log

On Product Decision, record do / do-not
    and the linked evidence IDs.
